I got to thinking about when you said you opened the gas cap and the bike started , I'm not sure , but it wouldn't hurt to check the tanks vent hose for a blockage . # 29

Ok, got the parts. Ran into some additional stuff that needed fixing as well. So here's all that was replaced:
  1. New front tire
  2. Rear and front brakes
  3. Fuel pump
  4. Gas cap
Went through the electronics including fuse box; checked and cleaned all the connections. Vent hose was clear.

Took it out for it's maiden voyage after all this and not even 5 miles into the ride, it died. Now throwing a B2119 trouble code: fuel pump output overloaded. So Jim is going to check and see if he did something wrong during the install of the new fuel pump.

After you check the connections to the fuel pump , check and clean the connectors on the bcm ( #9 ) and ecu ( #5 , if you have abs ) . Hopefully it's not a bad bcm causing your issue .

Do you recall if the fuel pump is priming when you turned on the ignition after it stalled ?

Did you disconnect the quick release from the tank to the tb during the install of the pump .

Jim read your response and will check out and clean the connectors on the the BCM (agree about hoping it's not that!). No ABS so #5 is n/a.

Did not pay attention if the fuel pump was priming on restart.

Jim did not disconnect the quick release.

As always, thanks for the guidance. Onward and upward!

Since you got a code that hasn't happened before and it's in the area of the work, check the work.

Ok, when Jim drained the tank, he found the rollover valve hose was cracked. Replaced that, put it back together. He took it out for a 30 minute ride yesterday with no issues. I took it out today and no problems. We're taking our bikes out for a ride to Tortilla Flats for a longer ride. But it sure seems like we might be fixed now!
