Default sputter/dies

I have a 2003 FLSTFI that has been acting up. Not all time but enough to be concerned. Sometimes about 10-15 minutes into a ride the bike will start to sputter/buck, check engine and security lights come on then go off. Other times it will not do it at all, I changed the crankshaft position sensor, it ran well for around 100 miles but acting up. Yesterday 15 miles in it started acting up, sputtered then it would go a bit then shut down, have to coast to the side of the road, bike will fire up right back up. I do not dare take my wife or grand daughter for even a short ride. Has anyone else have this problem? Bike has high flow air/ v&h big shots long with v&h fuel pak. thanks

how long has it been doing this almost sounds like bad gas or water in the gas

have you checked the simple stuff, battery terminals clean and tight, good fuel, good plugs?

If the check engine light came on then went off there should be code stored in the ECU. IIRC in those you need to short 2 pins on the data link connector to see.

Do the lights cut out when the issue occurs? There might be an issue with the main circuit breaker.

Make sure the battery cables are tight one both ends.

I have changed the plugs, battery cables tight along with ground. When it first starts doing it all lights stay on. But after I get going again it will just completely die. Did a wiggle test on the wires kept running. Only seems to cut out after engine is gets warmed up. I can’t trust the bike do not dare to go for a long ride. Thinking it may be the engine temperature sensor. Very frustrating!

Try holding up on the fuel tank line.

Had a friend that works on bikes take a look at mine, he changed fuel pump and lines and changed the ignition switch. He also said the heated grips wiring was loose and corroded so he tightened and cleaned it up. So far after 300 miles all seems good (knock on wood).
