Stage 1 or not Stage 1, that is the question
Guys,
Enginewise, I've got a stock '06 Low Rider with Rush pipes and 2" baffles. I'm for the most part a weekend warrior putting 8-10k per year on the bike. It runs great with a little bit of decel pop (which I actually like). Could use a little more giddy up but doesn't everybody want more horses. My main concern is all the reading I'm doing on this forum about how lean the EFI bikes are running and their potential impact on the long term health of the engine.
Talked to the stealer and he's talking $1,000 for a SE A/C, SERT and dyno run. That's alot of adult beverages.
So it's the proverbial "Pay me now or pay me later" question. Do I take the plunge for the long term health of the bike or regret it in a few years looking at a major overhaul or even a new bike (of course, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing).
I've found this forum to be a wealth of information and I greatly value you opinions, thanks.

RE: Stage 1 or not Stage 1, that is the question
the biggest expense is the SERT.............400-450 alone. PCIII USB is around 370, (really depends on if you wanna keep yourO2 sensors or not.) and you can save a few bucks and get an arlen ness big suckerinstead of the SE A/C (comes with a K&N instead of the dry paper of the SE)
as for the dyno....... really not needed on pipes and A/C only......... more usefull when you add cams, headwork, bigbore and what not.

That does sound like a lot! And I bet he must be the closest dealer around, thats when they really take advantage of you, but just a S.E.R.T. is $450.00, and you could probably look in J&P or DENNIS KIRK catalogs and buy a nice air box and K&N filter, the filter alone is about $50.00 to $60.00, and a GOOD dyno-tune is $200.00 to $300.00, depending how freindly your service manager is, but I have the SERT and I like it a lot, after my DYNO-TUNE, the bike ran so much better!Have you done your 1000 mile service yet? If not see if you could get everything done at same time, thats what I did and I have 2 dealers close to each other and they or like Hatfields and McCoys, so I just got best deal from one who wanted my business and not go to there rivals! FUEDS are cool! when you can save money!!!!! GOOD LUCK! PURPLE HAZE.

Purple,
Coming up on my one year anniversary with abour 6200 miles on the bike. Like I said I love the bike and want it to last a long time, especially for the $$$ we spend for the provilege to ride 'em. I'd keep her as she is if I wasn't concerned about the long term life. Yet the more I read about the stage 1 the more I hear it calling my name...... yes, dear.... I'm coming......
