Default SERT Knock Sensors??????

Seeking a little reassurance here while I learn more about the SERT.

Am I right in thinking that as long as the Knock Sensors are enabled, there should be little danger of destroying my engine, by being a little way off in the tune.

good afternoon, the knock sensors are pretty good insurance but nothing is 100%. An extreme lean mixture can cause damage even when the knock sensors are on I have been working with the sert myself with good results like yourself I'm still learning I have pretty extensive tuning background in auto racing and I recomend that you find an appropriate canned map to start with then make changes in small ingrements and one at a time and make sure to keep plenty of notes in the map file as to changes made. also save previous map just in case so you can revert to it. highly recomend that you try out the data record mode as it will tell you when you come up against the knock control

Thanks for the quick reply doggiedave, I have as you have suggested loaded a canned map and have only maxed out the clb tables so far. Runs ok with no real decel popping but I did do a short data run which on closer inspection showed a 2% knock retard activity on the rear cylinder for 3 segments of the record which tailed off to zero over the next 6 segments. I know this was only a very short time and cannot see any reason for this activity. I am guessing that the easiest way to show up knock activity is with full throttle roll ons through all the gears. So say 10mph to redline in 1st, then redline 2nd, and so on. I will also do some steady constant loads at say 30mph in 2nd, 40mph in 3rd, and so onupto say 70mph in 6th.

I'm not necessarly looking for top power, but for driveability in the real world.

I'm by no means an expert, (please re-read previous statement),but here's some info I gathered on the knock sensors while logging data.
