When to replace fuel pump
Curious on fuel pump replacement time.....
I know one guy that replaces the pump every five years. Some replace out of piece of mind. Some replace due to bad troubleshooting the real problem. Some say 100,000 miles or ten years.
I tend to replace when it dies....reguardless of age or miles. Or maybe it starts making unusual noise. Filter gets replaced every other year.
What’s everybody doing?

You know . that got me thinking . After reading about fuel pumps and being involved in a couple posts about them , I thought about my bike . I only have about 30,000 Km on mine , but I plan on replacing the filter next season . I'll have a look at the hoses and decide whether or not they and the regulator need replacing . I am going to pick up a pump and have it stored away , just in case . I don't think I'll replace mine unless I start hearing something that tells me to do it . The pumps are small enough to keep inside the saddle bag while on a long trip , so if I break down , I can fix it on the side of the road .

In my experience, it depends a lot on how much/how long the bike sits, during which the gasoline starts going bad, and becomes more corrosive. As a dealer technician, I don't know that I've ever recommended a fuel pump replacement as a precautionary step, I have replaced them because people want the peace of mind, but normally they look like this, and the shop stinks for 2 days...
