Default 2014 forty eight cranking when hooking up new battery

2014 forty eight bike cranks as soon as I hook up new battery with ignition key off and start run switch off , opened Solenoid And cleaned contacts and plunger washer and still doing it, before this happend I put a different aftermarket batter in it Cranked over once or twice then started clicking rapidly until I disconnected the battery cables got pretty warm if not hot, any help as to what could be causing this?

The starter solenoid is stuck in the contact position.

I took the cover off and pulled the plunger out the contacts were not stuck together and the plunger moved in and out freely when pushing on it

Disconnect the small wire going to the solenoid and see if it still cranks when battery is connected.

Yes, red/black wire. That is the wire that energizes the coil inside the solenoid.

If the starter cranks while the small trigger wire is disconnected, it means the problem is in the solenoid.

If the starter does not crank, check the voltage at the disconnected connector.

@Dan89FLSTC just unplugged the red/black wire connected battery successfully without starter cranking, turned key everything lit up fine ignition switch works, do you think this means I should put new contacts and plunger with new copper washer in the solenoid? Really hoping I don’t need to replace the whole starter/solenoid.

Did you measure voltage at the wire you disconnected, ignition switch on (starter button not pressed)?
