Oh good, that simplifies things!
Disconnect the points wire at the coil and with switch on, check voltage on each screw post of coil - should be close to 12v (battery voltage) on both sides. If not, replace the coil. If it does have 12v on each, replace the condenser.

Great advice. Ran the test and both sides of the coil showed to be good. Ordering a new condenser. Thanks

You're very welcome. If I'd known it had points, condenser would have been my first suggestion. Hard to start but running at rpms and dying out at low speed are text book symptoms...

If you get impatient waiting for the correct nosecone condenser, you can use any automotive type condenser to make it run. Ground the body and connect the wire end to the negative (points) side of the coil.

Won't be pretty, but it'll work

Stop screwing around with jumper cables, they are not a troubleshooting tool, you are just wasting your time.

Listen to T150vej...
Charge the battery and have it load tested, until you know that you have a battery in good working condition you are just chasing your tail.
