Is there an option in the software to select the "com" port or is there an Auto selection? Many times the default is com1 but the USB com ports end up 3, 5 or 6.

My bike runs great the way I have it set up but I ordered a SERT anyway. I just like stuff. But untill then I cant help you much on the software or interface.

Here's the owner's manual for the race tuner.

This should help you.

This is the serial adaptor that I used without a problem.

The F5U109 didn't work for me.

Serial devices are a pain in the rear. I guarantee you the problem is the com port settings. Look at the manual and see what com port the device is using, then set your computer up to match it.

Anthony8858 was kind enough to post the manual. I don't rememberthe page but yes you do have to select the com port. Serial devicesare legacy items of the past but in many cases a nessary Evil. If HD continous to market the SERT they will likely go USB (maybe)

thanks guys, I talked to an IT guy at the hospital today, he took a look at it and suggested I go with the usb serial adapter like the one BigCC suggested instead of the port replicator. Ive done the port setting thing to death. that's not it. Rich I tried the simple type of adapter first it wouldnt work, but it looks like the one Big CC used might do it. whew man this is what happens in DIY. Not exactly thrilled to be one of the pioneers, but thats the way it goes. Heh wife called the service dept at the dealer response "ya know we'll download that for 79 bucks" meaning remap ...........typical

thanks again I'm going to get one tomorrow afternoon.........................[8D]

another chapter in the continuing saga...... finally talked to a service tech that installs the SERT we went thru a few things he asked for the number off the box, he said the version of the handshake device the little box that allows the ecm to be accessed is a 2001 version so it will not communicate with my bike. even though the software version is brand new. with this info I can talk to the service manager and see what they will do to make it right. BTW the service tech was at the OTHER Harley dealership in town. mine was too busy "to be interrupted" hmmm by a CUSTOMER that just spent 22,000 dollars on a bike? If they dont do backflips to make this right I'm jumping ship to the competitor harley shop. At least I dont have to go back to the electronics place that **** is getting old. stay tuned............ god I'm getting sick of this thread
