Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) 2018-19 Fatboy
I rode a new 2019 Fatboy 114 yesterday with plans to buy one.
Overall, love the look of the bike and huge improvements over the old FB.
Very decent power.
One thing I notice . . .
the amount you have to twist the throttle before engine responds . . .
in some conditions.
I have always had cable-operated throttles where I can fine tune by cable adjustment
where the throttle cable opens the throttle plate.
I prefer about 1/8' inch movement (under all conditions) in throttle tube before engine responds.
These new Throttle By Wire setups have no cables.
Most of the time it seems ok but . . .
I noticed especially when powering out of a curve or cloverleaf . .
that the throttle needs move almost 1/2 an inch of twist before the engine responds.
I find this not only very annoying and it does not build confidence in riding.
When I want to power on, I want it now . . . not later while leaned over in the turn.
Is there a mechanical adjustment or possibly a software adjustment to
make this work correctly . . . like my old cable bikes did.
Thanks for any info.
Greatly appreciated.

there are software adjustments if you buy a tuning product such as the DJ Powervision or TTS Mastertune, but there is still going to be a learning curve for learning to ride the new tech. unfortunately it's just the way it is and the way it will be in the future. the other drawback is that both of these tuning products will most likely void your powertrain warranty, and i'm not familiar with any other product out there that will do what you want and not create warranty isssues.

Well . . . if that is the case, I don't think I will be buying any HD with ETC/Throttle By Wire technology and I really do not think after paying
$27,000 CAD, we should have deal with a "learning curve for learning to ride the new tech". WTF!
Just FYI . . . a HD dealer Service Manager told me basically the same thing
and even he hinted and agreed with me, he did not outright say it.
He thought the cables were fine.
I really hope other HD riders feel the same way and HD learns a lesson or two.
1. DO NOT FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN
2. DO NOT install changes and/or improvements on one function that actually takes away something that worked well before.
One would think HD own tech's would have access to the software to adjust something as simple as this and buyer
would not have to spend another $650.00 for a tuner to do it why also voiding factory warranty.
For years HD has had cable-operated fuel-injection systems that you could fine tune to your taste in 2 minutes
by adjusting the cable adjuster nut.
OMG . . . this world is going bonkers when it comes to new tech.

I'd rather have a ETC bike. More control over the blade allows me to tune for more power over cables. I have several cable bikes as well and jumping from one to the other is not a big deal for me.
IMO ETC does address problems over cable driven. Because tuning ETC for over ten years will show you improvement over just setting it 1:1.

Ok then . . . here's how I look at it . . .
been riding cable-controlled carbed and EFI bikes for many years.
Even Japenese bikes
I'm nearly 65 . . . getting old.
WHY DO I EVEN NOTICE A NEGATIVE RESULT on a "Fly/Throttle By Wire" bike?
If it was correct from the factory . . . we would not even be having this conversation.
Just a thought.
