tach needle jumping
Hi all.I'm new to the forum and riding.Great site! I did a search on the subject, but could'nt find any posts that addressed my problem.Hopefully I can get some input here. The tach on my '01 RKC jumps all over the place. It's an HD add-on that was on the bike when I bought it last year. The engine rpm's are'nt jumping, just the tach. When I pull away from a stop the tach will actually drop, and while cruising it'll hold at 3K then suddenly jump to 3800 and bounce back.Has my tach gone bad? Do they need to be calibrated or cleaned periodically? Thanks in advance!

RE: tach needle jumping
yep. It happens regularly on my 85FXEF tach.
**AS LONG AS** there is no hiccup in the road-running note, it is always a bad wire/connection under the tach.
But when you are getting backfiring, kangaroo-jumps and stuff....you are about to come to a charging-failure halt!
