Default Fuel Gauge

Have a 2005 Ultra Classis with Fuel Injection. Seen several complaints regarding fuel gauges being inacurate. I've had my ride in the shop three times in attempts to get the fuel gauge to read more accurate (they first "calibrated" by adjusting the float and removing some sort of dimple that causes the float to bind, second, the sending unit was replaced, third the gauge was replaced). It seems beter, BUT nothing like is was when new (i.e. worked fine for 3500 miles - at least did not notice any gross problems).

As such, wondering what is normal? For example, my guage now stays on Full for approx 50 miles, 1/2 at 120 miles, but falls very fast after 1/2 full.

Let me know what your unit does?

Thanks

I don't trust my fuel gauge either. My seems to go from full to empty evenly but i've run out of gas and only put in 4.5 gallons.

I don't put to much faith in the fuel gage I go by the OD. When mine gets to a 1/2 it falls pretty fast to the light comes on and till it shows empty.

The gauges aren't linear because of the shape of the tank.

The fuel guage on my 05 Heritage packed up after 900 miles always showing full ! The stealer has tried on two occasions to fix it but they are hopeless (Young spotty kids in the workshop)! I have ordered the service manual from another dealer yesterday and had quite a long chat with them over this problem concerning my origional stealer and they have made a commitment to fix it (The other dealer) under the HD warranty and were concerned over the poor sevice I was receiving.

So don't give up try and find another more sympathetic dealer and give them a try !
