Data link connector situation
Had an issue with the check engine light showing me it had a historic code stored so I made up a jumper as instructions in the electrical diagnostics manual and hooked it up to the wrong 2 pins. I hooked it up in the right way and it won't flash out a code to me but still says it has a historic code. Did I screw something up by hooking the pins wrong? Anyone had any experience as such?

It's a 2003 CVO Deuce with the 95 motor on it. It won't blink out a code. without a jumper I start the bike and the check engine light comes on to show it's working then goes out for a few seconds and comes back on for the 8 seconds to show a historic code and then it comes on intermittently while riding. sometimes comes on for 2 miles and sometimes just blinks on and off. But when I try to fetch a code with a jumper , there's nothing there. I am worried about hooking up the jumper backwards and what that may have done.

No code in it to be found, I didn't clear anything. Just the light coming on telling me there's a historic code. I even tried to clear it by the 50 start cycles with no luck it's still coming on.

some codes can only be read with a scan tool, unless things changed.
sometimes the eng light will come on showing a current malfunction but does not meet the criteria to log a code.
codes can be mis-leading, get a code because of another malfunction but sensor/sys still good, there is a hierarchy when dealing with code since correcting one item solves another that was depending upon its function.
