It was just me being super pissed off lol
i didn't have a wrench to throw, and I wasn't about to throw my laptop or the SERT...so i went with pointless ranting!

I really appreciate all your help btw. I'm getting ahold of my dealer tomorrow to see how to settle this

RE: SERT ?
I thought I had a bad SERT also. The bad cable checked good with a continuity tester but still did not connect. I suspect bad pin connections on the 4 pin end.
Anew one worked for me and I have since used the SERT to up load maps several times without fail.
Good luck with yours

RE: SERT ?
Wags
Did one last check for the night
"COM4 Open"
serial cable is fine, i've used 2 different ones
keyed to ignition, switched to run
This leaves the 4 pin cable or the dongle. Going to the dealer tomorrow to see if they can plug the 4 pin into someone's bike, if that works, then its gotta be the SERT

RE: SERT ?
MetallicaMatt,
I think you are on exactly the right path. It can only be one of a couple of things and you have them ID'd. Troubleshooting this kind of bug can be very frustrating. Good luck and let us all know how you make out.
Once you get this working you will be very glad you went with the SERT...

RE: SERT ?
Ok.....
1st what OS are you using?
2nd....Did you check to see if your SERT is reading the proper VIN etc. ?
3rd....Where did you get your SERT, Was it sealed?
4th.....what is the exact error message your getting when you try and program or read?
Take a deep breath it will all work out in the end! I know easier said than done but I had a problem and it turned out to be my OS (Vista)
Also...Reset your com port back to specs you do not need 128K etc. delete and reinstall your software for you Serial to usb and other devices reinstall your serial to usb before you even connect the device! Also go to the vendors site and see if there is an updated driver for your hardware. I use the belkin f 5109 whatever I bought from staples and downloaded the driver from there site (belkin) and all worked fine. If you are using Vista forget it!!!!
The only other thing is that your cables might be bad..Wags1 has given some awesome advise!!!! This is why I said install SERT first before anything else!If your dealer can get it to work than you have a glitch in your hardware somewhere.
Are you plugged into the right port? Yous should at least get the ECM info if not something is wrong with your connection!
Good luck!
