Default Replacing speedometer with a used one

I am looking into replacing the speedometer on my 2012 Softail Slim with a digital/analog 70900068A. First off, does anybody know if this will fit my bike and also, are there any possible issue I might be facing by replacing with a used one?

I didn't see anyone respond to this. Did you get an answer because I'm looking at the same model speedometer for my 09 flstn.

Default Used speedo 7900068a

These speedometer mate to the bike after installation and riding 25 miles. I bought the 068 part used but the seller assured me he'd done less than that and was spot on. Before buying I'd call either a dealer or HD to make sure the odometer will work. Miles are recorded on the speedo unit but it's also stored in the ECM I think after the mating is complete then you're done, can't reuse with another bike. The unit won't allow an overwrite of the mileage on it.

Love the unit thought the tach is helpful as is the gear indicator for when you're not tuned in.

I sure wish someone had a way to "recycle" these speedos. I have originals from a 2008 FXD & a 2012 FLSTC.
Seems like such a waste not be able do *something* with them other than just paper weights...

it will display speed accurately, however, as said, it will not display the mileage, it will display VINERR

I am looking for a speedo for my 97 Heritage that the LCD has almost gone blank.
I have researched over and over for someone who repairs or rebuilds them but so far have had no luck.
I would even accept a DONOR speedo as long as the LCD display functions.

Salty,
If you still have the 2012 FLSTC speedometer, would you consider selling it?

I was in the same boat. I called HD corporate and they turned me on to an HD upgrade kit to switch from an EVO speedometer to a twin cam unit. They found me a speedometer with about 18k miles on it. I got it for half price ($250). I know there is a new one with zero miles at a dealership but they wanted $500 for it at the time.

It is also possible to replace the LCD unit in the EVO speedometer. I saw some instructions on how to do it. Look in the EVO section of this forum. Way cheaper than my method. You might also be able to go the aftermarket route as well.

From everything I've read, once a speedo is "mated" to a VIN, it will not function on a different VIN...

I have used STOCK OEM speedos on "other" bikes a few times now. I have even put Softail speedos on Dynas and they worked.
Always within the parameters of a few model years. Not 10 years age different.
I used a 66,000 Kilometres unit in 3 different bikes and they all read 66,00 K's.
Hope that helps ya ?
