electrical problem?
Hello all,
2010 FXDF 7900 miles. K&N street metal intake, V&H ProPipe Chrome, FuelPak.
Was out riding this morning. Applying moderate to healthy throttle. When releasing throttle to disengage clutch and switch gears, bike turns off and speedometer moves to 0. When I complete the gear change and let go of the clutch handle to re-engage, engine comes back to life and speedometer moves back to display actual speed. This has happened about three times in the past two weeks.
Checked my battery connections, fuelpak settings, and ignition wires.
Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Ruben

If there is a senor switch in the clutch, might be the problem. As far as the bike running again after you disengage the clutch. Is it really starting itself or maybe your forward movement restarts the engine, sounds like a switch in the clutch.
On my 15 RGS if I try and start the bike in gear and clutch not pulled in the engine won't crank.
The opposite what you are doing, but again a switch in the clutch mechanism

Ruben, take a look at this with the engine off, but ignition and kill switch turned on, so your idiot lights are all on as if you are about to start. Pull the clutch lever in, while watching the lights. If they flicker or turn off, then silveradoman2's suggestion looks right, that your clutch switch is defective. When you release the clutch lever do the lights come back on?
Repeat the above (which you can do with the engine running if you wish) and engage first gear. Do the lights stay on or go off? Engage neutral and observe any change in the lights. There is another switch in the trans. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for all of the information and tips! I found a different post describing a similar problem... Loose battery cable... I recently installed a new battery about two months ago. Seems the screws needed to be re-tightened. Took her for a rip, started without hesitation (there seemed to be some earlier), and opened it up on I-10. Problem gone
