I had a short in the headlight on my 1995 FXD. I replaced the battery with a new one from the dealer. I thought I had the short fixed but after riding 25 miles at lunch yesterday the bike wouldn't start. I got a new 3 prong plug for the headlight and replaced it. The bike was too dead to start and in a flat parking lot. Here is where the stupidity set in. I hooked it up to a car battery with the car off, and started it. On the way home the tach started jumping when I put the brake on. When I got it home after about 25 miles of riding, the thing would not start. I disconneted the ground on the speedo and tach thinking that was shorting out, still no start. One very quiet click when I hit the starter and the lights would dim but the bike would not turn over. The click is at the starter. Did I fry the stator or the regulator?
