Default trimming AC plastic backplate

I know many have done this to have more air go to the filter element, so my question is how many of you have had problems with it braking off with time and use?

Not really sure what you're talking about, maybe a pic would help.
The best way to increase air flow is to get a high flow filter. The stock filter would be the bottleneck, not the backing plate.

I'm talking about doing this with my AC backplate, add a K&N filter and then just put the original chrome cover, that way it will have more ventilation but still be covered for rain.

That's what I did with my A/C but I had a dk customs ac support bracket that I used for extra support. I have had no problems so far,it's been about 8000 miles
