Part of ED. Can the RK 97r Police version have a different TPS factory setting? A colleague has such an RK, has sealed screws and the meter shows .196. I guess my 98 RG had those limits too.

Evo Marelli was .275V base setting - all screws and cables backed off if replacing per manual. May be different but that is the setting if the original is unknown.

Default TPS replacement and cold / warm settings and instructions
Actually for a twin cam the spec is a misprint. .195v at completely closed throttle (no cables or hot or cold idle stops engaged) is where you want to start. Many twin cams came out around .175v. Evo was the higher voltage spec and it wasn't caught in the manuals.

Set the hot idle, keep the cold cpmpletely off. When you pull the fuse it is to make the ECM learn highest idle voltage before the data bot switched to IDLE/WOT NO.

Then you can always set the cold idle later and don't have to pull fuse. You need it to get to IDLE/WOT YES after it warms up and comes off cold idle.

If you're really lost I can probably send you instructions I wrote on this years ago (I'd have to search)[/

Thank you for responding I’m lost on all of this
this is my first. I have a volt meter that will work
and I have been trying now for a week.
when I set it a 195v do I unplug the cold idle first
or just back the screw off
I will give my way to easily set up the TPS MM EVO

I will give my way to easily set the TPS MM EVO.
1- if it is possible, on a hot engine, loosen the screws of cold and warm revolutions completely
2- using a multimeter we set the TPS to .195-.275v. 3- set the screw of warm revolutions so that the throttle butterflies do not jam (on a multimeter .235)
4- the screw of the cold (stepper motor) revolutions set .650v. We can start the engine and check if the revolutions are in the range of 800-900. If necessary, we can now correct the revs + - on the fired engine
5- turn off the engine and pull out the ignition fuse for 5 minutes
4- start the engine and set the cold speed screw (stepper motor) to 800-900.
5- turn off the engine and pull out the fuse for about 5 minutes.
6- After inserting the fuse, start the motorcycle and use the cold speed screw to increase the speed to 1300-1400. Then turn off the engine with a fire extinguisher (the ignition switch remains in the on position) and disconnect the stepper motor and then the ignition switch to the off position
7- turn the button ON, then turn on the ignition for 15 seconds, then turn off the ignition for 20 seconds, turn on the ignition again for 15 seconds and turn it off for 20 seconds.
8- we start the motorcycle, the tachometer pointer should flash to 1300 rpm and then go down to the pre-set value, i.e. 800-900
9- turn off the motorcycle and enjoy the new settings.
If it seems to you that after the whole procedure your motorcycle revs too low or too high, you have to repeat the whole procedure and in point 4 you make a correction at your discretion and preferences

Unhappy High fuel consumption. I hope Ed (or someone else) can help me on this!

Hello,
I have set the TP on my FLHRCI '99 TC MM to 0.188 V (closed) and 0.650 (cold), and it works fine. I did these settings because of extreme cruising popping (between 100-120 km/h with stable throttle). It seems that the exhaust was the problem, when I changed from my old pseudo-supertrapp mufflers to free sharkfins the popping went away (same with stock but in this case maybe I just could not hear the popping). My problem is that I have too high fuel consumption, low MPG (around 29MPG or 8 l/100km). Is there any advice to have lower fuel consumption? Do the TP voltage settings affect this? I do not have a tuning kit on, only the exhaust, KN air filter, and S&S Gear Drive Cam Chest Kit (cogs and stronger oil pump).
Thank you!

Most TC88s were in the .175v range completely closed. .195v is the sweet spot especially if it had mufflers or an air cleaner.
The TP affects both fueling and timing and the proper sensor has two curves in it. .188 is not causing excessive fuel consumption.
**closed means no throttle cables or the hot or cold stops are acting in it. Closed as much as it can close.

Thank you Ed, any idea what can cause the excessive fuel consumption and how to lower it?

When exactly did it start? After installation of any parts? How have you measured the consumption? How many full tanks?
