I have a new to me 09 FLTCUI it has 42,000 miles and is in mint condition

It has a K&N high flow air cleaner and V&H Monster Ovals its runs great

So i expected a tune of some sort had been down , I talked with FM and

was told the only way to find out was to go to the dealer and have the ECM

checked , Yesterday i went for a nice 300 mile ride and had it checked .

Bike is bone stock which really surprised me considering it would be

considered stage one mods , So my question is what will a tuner give me

or just leave it , I have to assume its lean but the PO added the pipes and

air cleaner when it was new , I have all the service records for the bike

Thanks for any info

Dave

A tune will make it run richer, so it will then run cooler and with more power and response. There is a mind-boggling amount of posts here on tuners, so take some time to read up on them and see what you feel comfortable with.
Personally, I've tried the Fuelpak (old type piggyback) and XIEDs, which helped it run better. But it wasn't until I installed the ThunderMax that the motor really woke up and ran like I expected.

Your ECM is perfectly capable of adjusting for the mods you have. If you are happy with it, leave it. Your ECM had a +/- 10% adaptive fuel trim plus another amount that moves while it is being ridden that doesn't write to memory. Your mods won't max out the 10% window either way.

I also have an 09 FLHTCUI and it has been through a barrage of upgrades as you can see in my signature. I started with a K&N filter and slip ons and had no need for a tuner of any kind. My bike ecm was able to adjust just fine. I did have to add a fuel controller when I changed out the cams and lifter. I added a set of SE255 cams and the ECM just couldn't hang any longer. I added a Power Commander 5 and got a map from FM which tamed the beast. I later added an AutoTune but preferred Janie's map over the AutoTuned maps it made.

As you can see I am now on a 117" build with a PV and just added a Target Tune but this was after putting 96,000 miles on my stock motor with the 255's.
