Did my bike suck up some sand?
I was riding along the coast this morning (Ponto Beach Carlsbad) and there was a lot of sand being kicked up by a cement truck in front of me.
The bike was running fine until a few miles down the 101 when it stalled at a light. The bike fire up fine but was running a little rough and died again at a light a few miles away in Encinitas so I pulled into Moonlight beach and checked for codes (none found).
I tried restarting the bike but it took awhile before it finally fired, when it did the idle was low (850-950 rpms) and remained this way for the next 5-6 miles or so.
Long story short I rode inland to Biggs in San Marcos and by this time the bike was running fine with no issues.
I'm running an Arlen Ness big sucker air cleaner so I was wondering how well do these do in sand?

The bike is running good now, we might go for a ride later today out to Julian (a decent ride) I guess I'll see how it goes then.

Dave good luck with that. I hope it was just a freak thing. If you think about it the fuel system is a closed system right out the end of the injectors so it couldn't of been that.
The sucker should filter out sand and even if it had a gap and let some in I'm sure that would blow on thru. Me thinks you need to burn a tank out and stomp on her good.
Enjoy the ride!

I wondering if I got some water in there when I washed the bike the day before???

Yea I'm no mechanic man and say that out front but I guess a lil water in a spark plug boot wouldn't be good. But that is dried by now. The other thing I did just for the heck of it was change my fuel filter at 25 k ....I got 40k now.
That was one dirty sob at 25 k. I didn't have any issues but I didn't want any either so I'll continue to swap it out at 25 k just because. Some guys will say they have 60 k with never changing it....lol. Who knows. Ok have a great day. Happy Easter.
