Default Stage 1 Upgrade! Tuner or Have it Dyno Tuned?

So I'm going to upgrade my 2015 Road King with a fuel moto X-pipe, Rinehart 4" slip ons and breather upgrade. Are most all dealerships the same price on Dyno Tuning or would a Tuner be better. I know the bikes come from the factory lean. I guess I'm just confused on how these systems work. I figure if it has a way to map the air/fuel mixture why do they have to be tuned with just a stage 1? Is the window on the map too small for self adjustment? The way it sounds when you buy a new bike you should have it tuned to run more efficient.

Thanks,
Critter

Depends on how good your dealer is at tuning. I get mine tuned at the dealer because they're pretty good at it. Also, my dealer will back their work.

They have to be tuned for a stage 1 because you are letting more air in and with the stock fuel mixture, you'll run event hotter.

I've used an on-the-fly tuner that worked well. Some kits have pre-defined maps that work almost as well.

For a 'Stage 1' set-up any piggyback tuner, i.e. Fuelpack, Vied, or a Dealer download will suffice for your bike. A $400 dyno tune + a $400 tuner is just overkill for a gain of 6-8 hp.

ok so the bike in stock form with a map system and O2 sensors in the exhaust doesn't have the ability to adjust with such a small change on it's own?

(with aftermarket exhaust and breather)

I know this is apples to oranges but in the automotive field this is a non issue.

The stock ECU has the ability to adjust to +/- .03%. But swapping out the A/C and exhaust is not a 'small change' when it concerns a motorcycle motor since it now has the ability to move twice as much air through the system with the same amount of fuel.

That's what I was wondering. The maps tolerance is only .03% +/-. I have a good dealership I deal with so I trust they will do a good dyno tune. My other bikes were carbureted so this is all new to me. I like to learn as much as I can.

Thanks

If you decide on the Dyno tune, you'll still have to purchase a tuner for them to use to actually tune the bike. It's not one or the other in that case.

Buy an FP3 and auto tune it yourself.

A tuner that has a auto-tune feature will get the bike close to where it needs to be but it's not a replacement for a proper Dyno tune.

ok glad we have that cleared up, I thought it was one or the other.

when it comes to tuners do most guys like the on board tuners or a tuner that just flashes your computer?
