Question 50mm or 58mm SE Throttle Body, or something in between

Currently I have a 96 ci that has been updated to a 103ci. It has 255 cams, mild ported heads and flat top pistons ( 9.7:1 ). Currently has a very flat torque curve starting over 100 lbs at 2200 rpm and doesn't drop below until 5000, peak hp is at 5200, 90 hp. I have an Arlen Ness big sucker 2, along with V&H Big Radius pipes. I enjoy how strong this thing runs from start to 6000 rpm.

So my next venture is, I ordered RB Racing LSR 2-1 pipes for it. My thoughts are, this thing is going to need more air on the intake side, as the 2-1 will pull the air. Currently has the stock 46mm with stock injectors. I have been looking at the SE 50mm intake with the 4.9 injectors, but also noticed the stage 4 103 uses 58mm with the 259e cam. ( I know all the comments on the 255's, but I like them.)

My plan is to go with the SE 50mm and have the intake port matched to the intake and cam. I would like to hear from riders and sponsoring vendors on this. Torque is important, as I like how it pulls, but I don't want to pass up performance at the same price. It is a 2008 Softail Custom, so not a heavy bagger and I don't ride 2 up. ( She has her own)

Thanks, Bob

If you go with the SE50 you will have to pull your heads and have the intake runners opened up because the SE50 intake runners are larger.

Id go with the HPI 58mm. Heck my SE 50mm is collecting dust on the shelf. The HPI unit is a much better piece of hardware!

Default Head are ported

Thank you for the responses. The heads have been ported on both the intake and exhaust sides. I was considering going to the 50 mm and have the intake ported to match both sides.

My tuner has suggested that very little would be gained by going to the 50mm and simply cleaning up the stock 46mm and the stock injectors are good all the way to 115 hp. We are estimating the 100-110 range, so he should know.

Any builders want to chime in on this?

Thanks, Bob

i think Big Money has a point to consider. All the parts have to match.

For my 2007 EGC 96" when I had the 107" big bore kit at Fuel Moto with 10.5 compression and Level 2 high performance heads they suggested the best match was the SE 50mm intake with the 4.9 injectors, and it provides excellent low end and high end torque and feeds those hi-po heads and my V&H ProPipe quite nicely. But that's not to say you've got a good match with your top end.

Don't overdue the throttle body, it needs a good match just like all the other parts you've implented so far.

While over sizing a carb is bad fuel injection is much more forgiving. If and mods are planed down the road then up sizing the TB now is a good move.
