Okay I have a 99 fxr. I had mini apes on and changed to regular bars. I've been doing some work on it lately getting it ready to ride. It started fine before I started working on it. Then out of the blue it wouldn't turn over unless the run button was in the off position. Now here come the problems.

I put new switches in because the old ones were acting crazy. Now the new ones are acting crazy.

After putting the new switches on it wouldn't start. Then I turned the key and it acted like a car. The starter turned over when the key was turned on.

I put a new starter relay on it. But when using the start button it will not turn over.

There are no pinched wires.

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Sounds like you have some wires reversed. Is it possible the new switches are opposite polarity. Or maybe you just made a mistake?

 

I double and triple checked the wires. I made myself a diagram before installing the new wires as the color was somewhat different.

I think I'm going to run a wire straight from the start button back to the relay to see if I'm wrong. It stopped trying to turn the starter by the key though and I did nothing to correct it.

I've got to get this thing figured out it's keeping me up at night. LoL
