Default Installing a TSSM

I have an 14 Fat Bob without the security system. I would like to buy and install the new TSSM myself and then bring it to the dealer for the programming of the Fobs. Will the bike start if I install the security TSSM on the bike? or do I have to do something more before bringing it to the dealer. The dealer is telling me that I MUST have them install the system. I want to save the cost of labor. They are telling me 1 to 1.5 hrs labor for the job.

Thanks

From what I see in the instructions I think your dealer is full of $hit.

ACTUATION
1.See a Harley-Davidson dealer to activate the key fob to the TSSM, HFSM or BCM.

NOTE You can activate the TSSM fob by referring to the procedure in the electrical diagnostic manual.

I agree that he is full of it. On the other hand though, I have the electrical manual along with the shop manual but I can't seem to find how to activate the TSSM in the Elect Manual. There is a section on how to enter a 5 digit pin, but not activate the TSSM. At least I am not seeing it.

http://www.harley-performance.com/su...s/password.pdf this is a link to the instructions to marry the TSSM to the ECM so the bike will run, but I'm not sure about the key fob part. I'm sure there will be something out there! Hope it helps!

No worries mate. I would also recommend having it connected to a battery tender or pulling your headlight fuse, or both as your ignition will be on for a long time and will kill your battery in no time at all!!

Techo research's equipment will allow the TSSM and fob marriage. A couple other systems as well. Any indy shops in your area? Most guys trailer them in and it takes about 15 minutes for me to take care of it.

Indy Shops? never heard of them so I am guessing that they are not around where I live. I will call other dealers and see what they charge to install and program the TSSM and FOB's

Indy shops is another term for an Independant Mechanic, not an authourised Harley Tech...If you can find a good one and build up a repour with them you will save a few dollars and learn a lot...
