Default Cost to tune

I found a tuner in my area who comes recommended by several sources one being the service manager at my local HD. I'm going to provide a PC Vision. The tuner charges 350 for a dyno tune, 150 to supply and install exchange cat gutted pipes. From what I've read and discussed with others I feel the price isn't out of line. Comments will be appreciated.

That's right in line where it should be. Dyno tuning takes a few hours to get it right.

A little high for the tune. But not too bad. I think 300 is what I have paid here in California, and as you guys all over the country are so good at pointing out we have to pay more for everything here in California.

Full tunes around here go for 450-550 from the reputable guys. $350 is a bargain if he's good.

150 installed for a gutted cat pipe is fantastic. They sell for 125-130 on eBay, not including new gaskets, so that's pretty close to zero labor cost for the installation.

FWIW, use caution when installing a pre-gutted cat. If it wasn't done thoroughly, the motor can suck in some of the cat material leading to not-so-nice results.

I'm trying to figure out how the ecm can tell the front cylinder from the back cylinder when the cat is gutted? Just a thought.

Not trying to be a smartass but the answer is... the same way the ECM can tell the front cylinder from the back cylinder when the cat remains.

not bad price, as usual on this form over kill, a cut out cat is good as long as it is welded up right, just look it over and look into the pipes to make sure they are open. Im sure if the tuner installs it will be ok, I don't think he would install something that will hurt his reparation up.

The ECM differentiates between the two cylinders from the oxygen sensors installed in bungs welded into the header pipes. The oxygen sensor reading the front cylinder has a connecter which is gray, while the sensor reading the rear cylinder is black, The absence of a catalytic converter will not interfere with the signals from either oxygen sensor.
