It is definately a potential threat especially where i live because i leave well before sun up to go to work and it is not uncommon to see up to 12 deer on the way to work. Those deer alert things are worthless. I drive along slowly and if eye see those beady little flourescent eyes up a head I just beap the horn to get their attention then pull in the clutch and let the blast of that big ol V-Twin scare the day lights out of them. If this don't work, come to a complete stop and blap the throttle again and they usually book it. If you ride like they dont even exist sooner or later you'll meet one face to face with no where to go in which case I've always comtemplated just gunning it and I hope I cut the bugger right in half and keep right on going. Iv'e seen it done on one of the video post.

My wifes uncle hit a deer on his bike about 20 years ago. He was doing about 60 and the deer jumped from the side of the road and hit him square in the chest. Damn near killed him, I think he spent about a month in the hospital and another couple of months on crutches.

A couple summers ago, while riding in a group down a mountain, I saw this deer out of the corner of my eye. He ran across and my friend who was in front of me nailed him. I don't know if she even saw him coming, I was already on the brakes but I don't remember her braking. She didn't so much as even flinch... The deer went rolling a$$ over tincup, jumped back up and took off again. We stopped and to check out her bike....not a scratch on it, the tire must caught him in the hind legs...
That was the strangest thing I have ever seen and I am glad that the deer did not wait 3 seconds to run across the road cause I don't know that I wouldn't have dumped it trying to avoid him. It was just like the video, as I was staggered behind her on the right, and the deer came from the right.

I hit a deer 2 summers ago at about 55 mph in a rainstorm. I kept the bike up. Killed the deer.
