The guys was endangering the lives of others. The cops in the tape were nice guys. Hitting the bike at the back during some of the very slow corners would have been acceptable and kept injuries to a minimum. Shooting him off the bike might be thought of by some as excessive force.
That's all fine and dandy till you get some wanna be bad boy cop that decides to knock people off their bikes just for the "fun of it". I know that that would be few and far between. But some would just as some taser people just to get their kicks.

By that logic cops shouldn't be issued weapons at all, because some "wanna be bad boy cop" might decide to go off the reservation. Give it a rest please.....
A determination has to be allowed and made as to whether the actions of the rider poses more of a public risk than the knock-down maneuver. And in my opinion, they should have knocked his *** down. And they should be given the authority to make that call when necessary.
Most police department believe that it is the duty of the police officers to protect lives, and property(in that order), most PIT monuver you see it involves cages, there is a special PIT monuver for motorcycle, but I did not see the opportunity for the police to apply(much harder then cages) it to only damage property, and not the suspect. We was not there on the scene, we can only assume that officer tuned him up, and not striking the extremity to make him comply to handcuffs.
