What you saw is illegal in California. It is not lane splitting, that was riding the white line and is illegal.

Lane splitting is actually called lane sharing and involves your bike totally in one lane.

Fools take chances with the law at the least and with their life at the most.
i am definatley (sp?) a fool then. lane splitting/sharing is possibley one of the greatest perks about a motorcycle in traffic. i'm nota hundred percent about the legality but i've never been stopped for it. just stay within 10mph of surrounding traffic and i've found it to be cool have passed highway patrol on their bikes in traffic and never had a problem,

Since I have never lived in CA and done this, watching the video got my pucker factor way up there.

I think it's just a matter of time before a careless driver changes lanes or drifts over a bit or he catches a truck mirror. I couldn't do it.

When I first started lane splitting it was more stressfull than scary. Now it is just a way to get from point "A" to "B" in bumper to bumper traffic. And yes it is illegal to lane split in ca. but not realy enforced,But.......... If you are in a accident while lane spliting your pretty much at fault no matter what.

Yep that made my butt pucker too. When I was in CA for work last year I saw a lot of bikes spliting lanes...
