208 mile test run
When I got the 750 last fall I did two very easy 60 mile loops to get the first slow and easy 100 miles out of the way.
Through the winter I did some of the changes. The Big Boy seat, SE intake, Kury mirror extenders, fork brace, cut off the fork boots, silencer collection foot pegs, engine guard and the horn relocation.
Today I took it out for a good shake down ride to check the shift lever and mirror adjustments and check handling on various road conditions. The first test was on a country road with a bad railroad crossing. On my other bikes I had to slow to 25 to avoid bottoming out. The Street has a very firm but not harsh ride. I hit the crossing at 55 mph and the suspension did not bottom out and didn't throw me up from the seat.
At the northern route (resisted stopping at Poppy's)I went east on route forty which from route 78 is full of hills and curves and very bumpy rough road which should have been redone years ago. There was very strong and gusty March winds. I went 65 and the bike held the line like is was on rails. the fork brace may have helped some but it is a remarkable stable bike. Even in the tightest bumpy curves it wouldn't even shake its head.
Around one of the curves blind with trees and bushes a pickup truck was stooped waiting for an oncoming vehicle so it could turn left. With two fingers on the front brake I had the front suspension down to its limit and at the same time hard on the rear brakes. The brakes were strong and were easy to modulate without locking them up. Another test pasted with flying colors.
The ride covered five hours because the route went through over a dozen towns. That way I could run fast for a while then slow for a town and take off again. The engine got plenty of exercise without going too long at one speed.
Entering into one town at a 4 way stop I took off aggressively and the motor hesitated. I looked down and the low fuel lamp was on. Pulled into a gas station and put 3.2 gallons in. There was and even 180 on the clock. So the mpg was 56. Test number three passed. High mileage for long distance touring.
Power? Since it was not fully run in yet I did hold back but there is no question that the 750 will surprise many other bikes in acceleration. That little bugger scoots.
The final test was how comfortable would the bike be on a five hour ride. The answer is this 6'3" 200 lb rider was very comfortable at the end of the ride. Well except for this 74 year old's arthritis. But that's not the bikes fault.

Very nice! That mileage is awesome.
Rode 100 miles on Sunday on back roads, highways -a good mix. Without a windshield, 65 is about wife's comfort limit, though she had it up to 70 yesterday. Yesterday was mostly back roads, playing with the bike, becoming familiar.
750 handles extremely well, she is very pleasantly surprised. Right now all she wants is a fix to the mirrors. Thanks again for the pegs, huge difference.
