Default I think I made a mistake, imagine that!

I have owned a Piggybacker brand pull behind trailer for a year now. Used it with my Yamaha Royal Star now with my RKC. Great little trailer for the price, took it on a long trip last Fall with no issues. The only issue is the trailer length overall seemed long. I decided to shorten the length of the two inch square tubing by appx. 15". Trailer looks much better IMO but when I took it out for a spin when I exceed 50mph it starts to wobble real bad. I guess I messed up the engineering of the design. Note: the trailer was empty with no load inside to weight it down. Pulled fine up to 80mph before mod. Any thoughts or experience with this wobble.

That seems to be a reoccurring theme. Short hitch=trailer wobble. My Aluma pulls true empty, loaded, windy, rainy, it doesn't seem to matter. As a point of reference, my hitch is 70" from center of the wheel to center of the ball. It was about 65" but I added a Dauntless swivel hitch.

Well it's not the first nor the last time I have made an error but hey if you ain't trying what's the fun in it. I just ordered a swivel tongue which should add 6" back into the equation. I will see how it pulls after that. I need to add some weight inside the carrier also and test it.

if you google it you'll find an article on length of tongue. I believe from the axle to the hitch is one and a half times length of axle. might be 2x. I know when my friends build Harbor Freight trailers to put car top carriers on they extend the tongue by 20 inches.
