More and more I am finding out it has to do with the quality of gas you buy. This past weekend plus Monday I went to north GA for a camp out. On my rig (sidecar and motorcycle) on the way up I got about 30. On the way back I bought name brand gas and got 36.
2007 Police Road King converted to a Road Glide with a Champion Conversion. S & S 510G cams. Air Filter True Duals rush mufflers. Dynoed. 103 HP 106 lbs torque. Run 87 oct gas. I have had her this way for 30 k miles. I get between 35 to 40 mpg depending on conditions. Rarely ride above 70 mph. I get better mileage in NC, TN, and Northern GA. Then in Fl. It was dynoed in NC maybe thats why it gets around 40 up there. Mostly 35 to 37 in S. Fl. where I live.
I have a tri-glide 2012, it is stock and I get 33-35 miles per gallon. Just rode 2600 mile trip through various weather conditions, road conditions, etc. Pretty sure this is the average for my ride.
We have a 2019 HD Triglide Ultra. Yes, I know Harley says 40 mpg. This is not true in the wildest of dreams. Riding with my wife on back roads going between 55-60 MPH I can get in the mid 30's. Going on to the interstate and increasing the speed to 65-70 MPH decreases our fuel milage to between 28-30 mph. If we are really in a hurry, the milage drops to 22-25 MPG. We are afraid to take the bike on a long trip on say I 10 through Texas, speeds are 80 and in some areas the fuel stops are over 100 miles apart. I had thought about changing the drive pulleys to get better milage, this would throw off the speedometer which is driven by the transmission. Andrews offers a number of pulleys to choose from but there is no way to correct speedometer error.
Added weight, drag more rubber on the road all adds up With sidecar I dropped to 35 MPG. If I starting running 80 MPH it drops more. I would expect about the same from a trike
My ‘12 with SE255 Cams, V&H full system, Pro Race Tuner tuned...I averaged 30 Mph, if I cruised at 65 on the highway I got 35. Any faster and it dropped. got as bad as 25 one time riding into a strong wind heading towards Las Vegas.
