Default Help with trailer ID

I bought this trailer from a indy shop. Hunerd dollers. It has been on the shelf in his shop for 15 years. I remember seeing trailers like this YEARS ago. Does anyone know who may have manufactured this thing? The pictures are as I got it. Some clean up, get rid of the top box, new (used) wheels, new paint (the 'ol lady's job) and I'm up and pullin'. Thanks. Al

Default Manufacturer

It was manufactured by: Smitty's MFG. Company, 535 S. Duff, Ames, Iowa, 50010. 515-232-3500.
I am fairly certain they are out of business. I have one that is like yours. The tounge was originally a goose neck style that attached to a hitch that mounted to the upper fender struts. I am planning to pull mine to Sturgis this year. Hope this helps.

Default Continuing Saga

We got the thing apart. I've got the body work done, and I've just got to prime and shoot it. The new axle, hubs, fenders and wheels will be delivered tommarrow. When I get the axle welded up, the frame will go to Ace powdercoating in Dallas. Completed, I should be into this thing for about $500. The first picture is as I bought it, the second is as it is now. More later............

Are the fenders just generic or were they removed from something else? They look like an exact fit.

They are generic that I ordered online, and are made for 12" wheels. I ordered them sight unseen and are a pretty good fit. They are made from hard plastic and seem pretty sturdy. They are just for looks and to keep down the roostertails.

This week we mounted the box to the permanent location so we could drill and mount the fenders. The fenders are mounted to the top part of the clamshell. I'm also gonna chop the tongue 7 1/2 inches to shorten the length. That'll happen next week. Need lights, paint, plates and cooler, and I'm ready. I'm into this for $400. I think I'm gonna run over my $500 budget a little. Damn it's hot outside. 104 here today.

Cool looking trailer. As far as cutting it down 71/2", It's just a thought. I'm going to ride it as is first. It just looks long to me.
