I have the VPC 84 installed and also get similar noise when hot---cold OK. Roger says he gets the noise even with Redline Shockproof but still if anyone is interested.............

I'm going to have to listen to mine closer. I installed the VP84T this past winter and haven't noticed any noises. My 06 Ultra has a VP83T which the VP84T replaced, I've had it installed for about 20,000 miles and have never heard any noise from it.

I guess what I meant to say was that I got the noise before and after the 84T installation so I wanted to rule that out.
If my transmission were to get worse and I had to return it for warranty work, I imagine I'd have to remove the VPC to keep the H-D hounds from pointing fingers at me for causing the failure.
Dropped the bike off at the dealer, mechanic stated that he would tear into the trans during the week. The trans was rattling like a skeleton walking on a tin roof. I will let everyone know about the outcome.

Would be a good idea so you don't have to deal with the hassle.
Any word yet on what they found? I took mine by my local Indy who is authorized for Harley extended warranty and he said he wouldn't open up the tranny just for the gear rattle. I am still not really hsppy about it!
FWIW, after I dumped in a quart of Redline Shockproof for V-Twin, the noise is gone, shifts easier, goes into neutral easier, and the clunk into first isn't as hard. No, I'm not a vendor for Redline.

The red line is some good stuff. A side benefit the Shockproof has is the color let you know if the drop of oil you see on the floor is trans or not.

Can't remember the name of the gear synthetic the dealer used for my 1000 mile check. It was cranberry in color and I know it wasn't Redline. At least they didn't dump in engine oil!

I don't have a clue what they used. I know Shockproof heavy is Pepto pink.
