Smile Trailer tag requirement

Hey guys & gals,

Was wondering about license(tag) requirements in states other than Kansas. I've been told that here in KS. if your trailer is less than 2K GVW tags are not required. Fine , I guess as long as I never leave the state? Problem being that if your from KS and want to go for an extended ride, you will want to leave KS (flat & boring)
Wondering if all states have this GVW rule? I dont want to end up 1000 miles from home trying to convince a trooper that I dont need a tag for the trailer.

Other states have to honor tag rules. I am from WI, no tag on smaller trailers here. I live near the IL border which does use tags for small. Never have a problem cause my tow vehicle is WI tagged.

In Virginia, if it trailers behind you, it has to have a tag.....However, all out-of-staters need to do is comply with their states regs when it comes to registration. If your state doesn't require a tag, you won't get a ticket here for not having one.

Tennessee requires tags on trailers if they are used for commercial use. I paid the $68 and got a permanent "semi" tag for the bike hauler.

My advice would be to tag it and get some additonal insurance to cover it. If for nothing more then piece of mind and to CYA.

In Georgia it doesn't matter the size/GVW ALL trailers are tagged, but most don't require insurance.

As FLTR2008TRIKE said. tag it to be safe. Also get insurance on the trailer as well. It's covered when it's attached to your scoot. But if it's disconnected and someone hits it. It's out of pocket then.

Also consider if it comes unattached while tooling down the road you wouldn't be covered. Happened to a friend of mine with his boat trailer, cost him plenty.

Thanks for the input everyone! I think I'll go ahead and tag the trailer, hell, how much could it really cost anyway? Plus the peace of mind will be nice. Thanks again.
