Default running tire backwards?

Need to replace the tire on the sidecar.
Purchased a Commander ll to match rear of bike. Different size of course.

Any truth to mounting the tire backwards, that is the opposite rotation.
I have had a few people mention it so trying to find the truth??

Thanks
Tom

I know that a lot of people mount a rear tire backwards on the front of a trike. Haven't heard of doing it on a sidecar

The sidecar tire doesn't get the abuse that the front and rear motorcycle tires do. I only got 5K on the rear motorcycle drive tire of my TLE probably due to flying the car all the time. If you get less than 10K on your front tire then a rear tire on the front will give you better mileage. Mounted in reverse the MT90-16 Commander II tread is oriented the same as the stock tire mounted in the proper direction and has almost twice the tread depth.

The reason, so I've read in the link below, for running a rear tire reversed on the front is so the splice does not come apart.
The back tire having more tread lasts longer.

I have been told that the POLICE tire will last twice as long,
but have no proof!......tenn
