Lone Watie, I like what ur doin to the Fat Bob. With the dual disks up front and those wheels it'll look sharp. If I hadn't found a wrecked Street Bob to convert a Fat Bob would of been my choice.

That's a nice leather tool case. Thanks for the tip on the tank lift. It's no big deal to bring it off. It's funny on the dyna forum how one member mentioned that it looks good without the dual headlight, but I should remove the spotlights and relocate the turn signals (hah).
U-234, thanks for the compliment. I'm real please so far with how she's turning out, and wouldn't be this far in the project had you all not paved the way. At first I was unsure how my cast aluminum wheels would look with this conversion, but with everything coming together, I'm not so concerned about that anymore. There are spoked wheels for the fat bob out there, and white walls if I should decide to go down that route in the future, but, for now, the cast wheels are fine.
This coming week I'll get the floorboards completed with the plywood template for my aluminum, which I need to acquire.
Still need to get rid of those abhorrent diamondback cables. One size fits all doesn't work with what I did 4 years ago with putting the mini-apes on. I never did like them, but harley is very unforgiving with installed parts, so just left them there.
They're too long and just plain ugly. I'll probably have to go with wide glide length brake and clutch lines for the time being, which won't be so bad having the black vinyl cables, more nostalgic. Do you all know much about custom built (i.e. me doing it) brake lines? and clutch cable for that matter? It would be nice to fabricate my own.
AFMM3 - can't wait to see the doughnut a$$ seat. That will look great. What steel round bar are you using for your brackets? Is it thick/strong enough to do up some passenger peg mounts? What are you using to bend it? Have you had any preliminary thoughts on saddlebag guards yet? As far as you doing multiple things at one time, that's been my modus operandi since I started this, which is good, as when I get tired or frustrated with one thing, I just shift gears and work on something else.

My floorboards are all but permanently installed. I have the rough shape of the permanent brackets cut out on 1/2 inch plywood, and ordered some T6 aluminum from amazon this morning. I mounted them in a comfortable position, but I think the shifter side needs to come up just a tad. It's about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch lower than the brake side, which feels right, so I'll adjust the shifter side. They look good, in my opinion, and feel even better. Here's a couple pics of the temp install:

I plan on fitting the fender extension on next week when I'm off again. I'll start by cutting out the flattened curved part like AFMM3 did and cutting and fitting from the fat bob fender to work it into place. I'm closer and closer to the paint on this project. Hopefully by February I'll be in a position to get some new color on it, at least some primer so it doesn't look like the little rascals' dog. I've got some good ideas to implement on the luggage rack and hope it works out. I bought one of the 3 channel racks off ebay. I plan on fabricating a quick detach plate like AFMM3 did, but will install it on bushings in the gap between my fender and the struts. The street glide fender just slightly too narrow to fill the space completely on fat bob. Just need to grind a little off the existing mount and do a little welding. Also almost ready to weld my tool box bracket and get that on there. I'll post pics of that when I get that far. I've been using up an old piece of 1/2 in plywood and it's come in really handy with this.
I bought a small mini-metal-lathe a couple weeks ago and that's sidetracked me a bit this week off to get it tweaked and adjusted. I plan on lathing my own bushings for the luggage rack. It was a good reason to get this machine. I plan on building a milling attachment for it as well. It won't handle a lot, but will come in handy. I'll use the drill press for what it was designed for - drilling. Well - Happy New Year and I'll continue to keep you posted on my progress with Obese Bob.

I hope you understand that you will never ride a bike again without floorboards! You are doing a good job and you are almost there. Are you going with 1/2" or 1/4" aluminum? I had no problems with the 1/4".
I have been finishing up my cop seat. It took awhile to get the attitude correct. I would have liked the seat rail a little higher but couldn't come up with a way without bending and cracking the chrome. It still looks good to me and adds a lot to the overall look.

I'm already infatuated with the boards and haven't even ridden the bike yet. I'm going with 3/8" T6. The extra thickness doesn't change things dramatically, but to me, it gives the frame mounting screws a little more purchasing ply.
That seat is looking great. I'm jealous of that cop seat; I like the rails around it. I'm hoping we can do some similar rails around the saddlebags for aesthetics and protection.
Are you still working the fender extension? It appears as if your weld is not on there for now. Are you getting any bubblebags soon? I'll probably wait until I'm painted before I decide on color. It shouldn't affect my paint job at all to mount them (I hope), that way I can be sure I get the correct match. What I'd like to do is throw a bag on the bike in the spring and ride over to PA and pick them out myself, but that's probably a little out of the question for now.

Anybody need a touring rear turn signal set up? I am selling mine off my 2009 Road King, I know this I should be posting in the classifieds but I wanted to run through here before I put it up on ebay. 45 shipped

Look again, especially the side shot. It is just one fender now waiting for paint. The Road King fender alone didn't go past the upper shock bolts.
Seat looks even better now as the mounting hardware is painted black and there are chrome (pseudo) springs that show up really well. It really looks like a sprung seat while it is actually hard mounted. It can also be removed with no tools.
Got the left side exhaust in it's final position. Just have to fabricate the saddlebag mount to muffler to fender hanger system. It looks absolutely awesome and sounds like an old Shovelhead! I made one hanger already but am going to do them again for a better look. Each side only costs about $1.50 to make so I will do it again and again untill I am happy.
My father now states that he is going to do dual exhaust on his project Dyna. He will first attempt the traditional pipe out the left behind the rear cyclinder. In our phone discussions (he is in New York, I am in North Dakota) we came up with a fool proof way to support a left muffler without saddlebags being required. I may want to save this one for a patent, it is that good. If anyone can make the traditional dual exhaust work, it is him.

Ok - I see the extension now. That looks real nice; I hope my extension turns out as well. Fortunately, I have a friend who used to do a lot of body work who's going to help with the extension. So, I used an app on my iPhone today to measure the angle of my floorboards which I just eyeballed, and according to the inclinometer I am within 1/2 degree from just eyeballing the angle of the boards, not bad for eyeballing it yesterday. The height is slightly off, but when I mill/drill out the mounting holes in the T6 I should be able to slightly elongate to give a fine tuning capability to the final mount. Looks like I'll have to start working on the rear brake line next. I was hoping to go with magnum shielding and build up my own brake lines, both front and rear, and clutch cable but they are all out of stock for now. Have you heard anything about them? If they don't get the supplies in stock soon, I'll have to drop a few bucks on some 2008 wide glide clutch brake lines (front) and a clutch cable from same (I am using wide glide mini-apes, so length should be spot on). I'll probably leave throttle cables alone for now, even though the diamondback shielded cables won't match the black wide glide lines/cable. Your softail rear brake line worked out well, didn't it? How did you end up doing the brake light switch? I was thinking of a solid brake line from the rear master cylinder all the way back to the caliper, and running wire extensions up to the front for the switch, but I guess if I can get a organic softail brake line to fit I can just use the softail setup for the light just as easily.

My father is ready for paint already. Good to be retired. This was an 05 FXD with low mileage (4k). That is a 1960-84 FLH front end but with modern 41mm forks.
