So, you can get a memphis shades OEM style windshield with the tinted color? I didn't know that. Can you still get it in a fat/wide version? I really like that look.

My welding helmet and gloves came yesterday, so I plan on spending some time getting to know my hobart next week. First stop MOnday morning on way home from work is body shop for some scrap sheet metal to play around with.

Did my rear fender grafting today. Cut the flat spot out of the Road King fender, Cut the matching area out of the Street Bob fender and then welded them together. A little pounding involved but with a little Bondo, it should look good!

Exactly what I'm planning with the old fat bob fender. Looks good. Did you lap joint that or butt it?

AFMM3 - once again I'm a little confused and hoping you can clear it up a bit. Are these the parts you have for your windshield:
1. Heritage Softail quick release brackets
2. Road King windshield 'braces' not brackets for mounting, but the metal strips
3. OEM replacement for a Road King windshield from Memphis Shades
Is this correct? I'm just curious as to how you mounted road king size/style windshield with its metal bracing into the heritage mounting bracket.
In other words, how did you get a road king windshield with its horizontal and vertical straps to fit between your softail mounting brackets? Aren't the holes different, or wider?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Nice job on the fender, never thought of going that route.

Just to keep it simple,
everything is for a Heritage Classic
. I remembered that I used all the Road King windshield stuff for a custom job on my kids Fat Bob front end Nightster.
Did a lap joint on the fender. They are not the same size and beyond my skill level to butt weld it. I have no idea what your Fat Bob fender is like, might be bigger.

fat bob fender is bigger; I envision having to weld the fat bob cut out onto the outside of the street glide fender, weld/fill/grind/fill as needed to blend it in. The good thing is it will hardly be noticeable up against the frame there.
For windshield, I'll probably end up getting the metal straps for a heritage shield from partsonline and replacement OEM shield from memphis, like you recommended. It will be a wash price-wise from finding a used shield on ebay and taking the metal straps/bracing out and using with new plastic.

Lone Waite, If you aren't in a hurry for the windshield and can wait for a good deal to come along you can usually find decent used stuff on ebay for a good price. I found the nostalgic detach winshield for $80 + shipping. It didn't come with the detach hardware, but that was easy enough to get from a dealer for about $60 and some change for the kit. I have the part number for the hardware kit around here somewhere if you need it.

I got the quick detach plates in today and they mounted up to my fat bob shield with no problem. I may not need to buy new braces, just new plastic. My fat bob fits with the headlight, but is obviously not made for it. Braces lined up perfectly to the detach plates.
I'm waiting on the bushings to finish up the light bar install. I spent some time today grinding away on the light bar upright L-bracket so it wouldn't rub on the top of the triple tree.My front fender came in late this afternoon. Tomorrow I'll rig something up for fitment while I'm waiting for the klockwerks brackets. I'm sure with some L-brackets from Home Depot I can get some measurements, and then maybe make my own like AFMM3 did. We'll see. Waiting on some wiring stuff this week to at least wire the light bar, and should get my 3-wire turn signals this week as well.
