2-into-1 head pipe how-to ... (at least how
I did it)
If you do a search, I think I did a thread on how I did my 2-into-1 exhaust ... it is a Paughco P/N 733C9 (touring) headpipe with a local muffler shop doing a little massaging ... (it was ~$275 shipped) ....
I initially couldn't figure out why it didn't fit quite right (it hung down at a bit of an angle), so I had a friend at a muffler shop put a little bit more of a bend (guessing about 5 degrees) in the front headpipe where it turns to the rear to get the pipe to set horizontally ... (edit: also had to have him cut a little (half inch or so) off the rear headpipe) ....
[Both the Touring and Dyna are "A" type motors, so I was not sure why the pipe didn't fit the same (horizontal orientation) on the Dyna ... I then realized that the Dyna motor is oriented tipped slightly to the rear and the Touring are canted slightly forward]
The headpipes come either with or without O2 bungs ... the 733C9 has them ....
I found some take-off heat shields in the forum classifieds (although Paughco sells them, too) ....
I made my own muffler bracket for Paughco P/N 603 ...
I attached a threaded stud and spacer to the bottom of the stock bracket ...
A headlight mounting block was inverted and screwed into the bottom of the stud ... a piece of 1/8"x1-1/4" zinc-plated steel stock was then bolted to the headlight mounting block horizontally between the muffler and the swingarm ....
There's a channel on the inner face of the muffler and two "T" bolts connect the muffler to the other (aft) end of the steel stock ....
I contemplated trying to put on a fishtail ... may still give it a try later ....
Since I am using a ThunderMax with AutoTune I had to switch to pipes with O2 bungs ... ('05 OEM ECM is 'open loop' so does not use feedback from O2 sensors) ....
I kept the front headpipe clamp that mounts under the cam chest to support the front of the pipe ...
