Carl- Thats sharp!
Sonny- S&S 510G. Runout was within spec, but we're waiting on the bearing extractor to come in to complete the install. We did as much as we could yesterday...hoping it comes in on Monday cause thats the last evening I have to do it for a week or two.
The camplate...*sigh* The bearing retaining plate (The "W" Thing) had two of its bolts snap. Buddys got a drill press and a tiny easy out hes gonna try...
Fears with doing this:
1. Crank out of spec - have to go hydraulic camplate + cams or have the case split and fixed.
2. Camplate ****ed somehow - have to buy new cam plate.
3. Pushrods won't get timed correctly and messes up valves/lifters/engine/my life.
4. Something gets left in the crankcase and gets caught in the gears and the engine locks up going down the highway.
Trying to be absolutely meticulous with this to prevent any of this from happening. I'm trying to find another camplate that won't break the bank just in case.

Oh and FYI: Careful when cutting the pushrods; the lifter or tappet cover (Whatever you wanna call it) is EASILY marred by the bolt cutters.
Also its good to do that part first so theres no going back.

ive changed cams in everything from flatheads , iron heads , shovelheads and evos . I'm not putting in adjustable push rods , I'm keeping stocks and I'm going back chain drive cams . not worried about doing the swap just hoping I'm getting best cams

I stayed with stock push rods too, I just didn't want to mess with adjustables. I planned on the 37s but my 26H set was way too cheap to pass up and they fill my needs.

ackman I hate adjustable pushrods after riding old Harleys then again I hate points too , I think I only have 1 bike left with points

It should be fine; I didn't want to pull the rocker boxes...and S&S has some good reviews on their adjustable.

I'm not supposed to be changing cams my self , I have a friend that I do free gun work for all the time that made me promise id let him do the work for the labor he owes me for , I'm just not sure how he is going to take me helping do the work at the shop he works at ( yes I'm that anal about other people touching my bike )
