here is the best shot I have of the front wheel setup.

Finally managed to find a rear Dyna hub via the eBay world, now I can start lacing up my 16x3, man I wish I could find a 16x4.5 or 16x5 hoop on the cheap.

I trued it up first, had the tire mounted, then trued it up again with the rubber on it. Putting the rubber on didn't take it out of specs. (.030" in all directions) but I try to get my wheels under .010". I then mounted it and did 1/4 turns loose on the side I was moving away from, then 1/4 turns tight on each spoke of the side I was drawing to.
I double checked the true while on the bike and nothing had changed. I also balance the wheel/tire myself on the truing stand using stick on weights, also available from Harbor Freight.

The misery of the wait. Started to get it buttoned up because parts arrived today but fat bob axle and spacers are wrong-ordered softail axle and left spacer and brake disc just to make sure
So it'll be OOS for at least another week-supposed to rain anyway but Friday is supposed to be nice and I wanted to ride to work! oh well at least I can see its coming together.

Oh yeah, you need complete Softail parts to use a Softail wheel. The rotor shouldn't have been a problem though, I am still using my original along with the original brake caliper.
Since you are waiting for parts, if you can drop the bike down and get it level, this would be a good time for you to look at the front fender angle. Everything you now have on the front end is made for a 32 deg. neck angle and you are now at 29 deg. The fender may be pointing downward more than you would like. I elongated the top of the rear mounting holes and the bottom of the front holes just enough to get the angle right.

So I ended up lowering the whole fender about ⅜". You can see the fender tabs sticking out past the mounting points on the fork sliders. Maybe I'll adjust after its off the jack but I like where its at for now.

arrived today. Clear up front and red for rear. Very thick high quality glass. Made in USA.
At first I put Amber bulbs up front but you could still see orange glare. Switched back to clear. Looks much cleaner IMO.

Getting closer to the beautification on the bike. I slid the freshly upgraded rear axle under the Firebird today, just need to put oil in it and double check all the hardware. I have more ebay parts coming to complete the overhaul. Once the bird is given the all clear (IE. no gear whine from the rear) I'll move the Maverick outside so I have room to clean up the bike. Shouldn't have any issue getting it together before the weather breaks.

Cool... my 'fat' project is on the slow burner... looks like a next winter project now, as we have other things we want to get done. Oh well... I'll just keep plugging along.

when you guys still had the Fat Bob setup and were running the 16x3 rim up front, what were you using to set an initial offset. I started to us the manual but it only list 17", 19" and 21" and I don't believe any of them are a 3" so the rim face reference would be incorrect. Just trying to get a starting point. Also, if any of you used a 16x3 in the back, do you have the initial offset for that too?
