On the fl style with fat bob trees I always left windshield on as no tins just kinda looked a bit off in my opinion.

Damn, that seat rail really adds a lot! On my hose clamps, I slid black heat shrink onto the hose clamp to help hide them a little more. Amazing how much you can bend that seat rail without cracking the chrome.
I also never rode without the windshield when I had the Fat Bob front end because it looked incomplete. I thoroughly enjoy riding locally without the shield now on those warm summer days.

fskitch, do you plan to drill and tap a hole for mounting that seat bar where you had to bend it? It looks really good, just need to clean it up and remove at clamp.
Also, what year(s) softail front end are you guys recommending for the front end mods?

Thanks AFMM3. I did notice your hose clamps when studying earlier versions of the red bike. I really had to look for them because there is so much happening on the bike your eyes aren't drawn to them. I spotted black bands on the black bike version and was wondering if you covered the hose clamps or used something else.
blueangel- I'm probably just going to cover the hose clamps. The seat does a pretty good job of hiding them anyway. That grab rail is on rock solid-you could probably pick up the ass end of the bike with it.

blueangel-I pieced my front end together and I'll try to break it down for you.
If you are 25mm axle
, fork slider part numbers are 45916-07 (left), 45915-08 (right). these part #'s go from 2008 all the way up to 2016, I think. I got lucky $40 shipped for new take offs on eBay.
The forks are 41mm, 22 ¼" as listed for FLS softails on BKRider. You can go wide glide length or whatever. If you go longer on the forks you may need 2" over "beer cans". I got my trees and tins as a complete set on an out of state CL post thanks to AFMM3's help. I forget the year but I think Harley's been using the same trees and tins for softails as far back as the 90's.

Here's an example of a set of tree's on eBay.

I got mine with complete set of tins shipped from Minnesota to California for $220. I'm trying to contribute to the group by posting deals I come across
that I don't need
on the FL Dyna eBay thread started by Mars47. This particular eBay listing won't make Mars47's thread!

Lol. I do the same; don't worry. I get bored and search on Ebay for whatever. Thats just some of the stuff I found...lately I've been looking at 1-3 year old CVO Road Kings and Street Glides...
Gooo lottery! lol

fskitch, I have a set of new trees, and all new bearings/seals for it.. thanks for the offer!
(wide glide - hub, sliders, axle, spacers)
I guess I'm going more 'bobber' style than a true FL style... although I have been thinking of a more 'sweeper' style front fender, than 'fatbob' style. Looking forward to lacing the Ultra profile rims onto my hubs... I think that'll look sharp.
Also thinking about my windshield, and reusing the stock QD hardware, but forming my own lexan... any thoughts? ...

Rich, we may have to take a trip your way as well, Gina's horses live in Lewiston now and she likes to see them now and then. She'll probably want to meet you pooches too, we're going to see a local breeder today and see her dogs/facilities. RE: the lexan, I've seen the things you have accomplished (engraving, leather work) I don't see this one holding you back either!
I hear you all on the ebay thing, I'm constantly looking a Craigslist even though there isn't shit for sale in my area. I look through the motorcycle and auto parts, usually with disappointment.

archergodwin, if I follow you correctly, you are converting from a midglide to a wide glide via fat bob trees and the wide glide hub with the 25mm bearings (already installed w/ the bearing spacer), correct? If this is the case the only things you will need to finish the swap is the longer axle. Your street bob's rotor and axle spacers will work with the transition. The wide glide and street bob use the same axle spacers. Your stock brake caliper on the stock lower legs will work, unless you want to go longer on the legs.
