OK, here is a picture that shows how far out you have to be for the saddlebags to clear the axle. Most people mount their bags so high that it wouldn't matter but I cannot stand that Softail Deluxe with saddlebags look.
If you look closely you will notice that my BBReproduction brackets are actually behind my aluminum mounting plates and the saddlebags pins go through the aluminum. If you look closely you will also notice that the rear bracket bar is attached to the "Fender to Saddlebag Bracket" located in the rear fender. This connects the saddlebags to each other and cannot sag when fully loaded or on rough roads. The rubber sheeting is just for extra cushion between the bags and the aluminum.
Engine guard is the Harley Davidson for 2006 and newer Dyna. Over $200 at dealer so if you see one on eBay, well you know what to do.............
