Sounds like a plan. I 'unwrapped' my tank today from the masking paper and tape, and she turned out nice as well. Will start color sanding and polishing my tins tomorrow. Unfortunately, I have to go back to work Monday, and will not be able to put her all back together this week, but should be really soon now.

Paesani, I can get some in the morning and post them up but it's not much to look at compared to lone's pics!

Well, I got my color sanding and buffing and polishing done today. For as much a pain as it was getting the paint on there, it's really polished up nicely. Of course, there are a few 'beauty marks' but hopefully they'll be for me to know and no one else. I test fit some of my emblems on there and looks nice. I can't put them on for good yet until I wax, which will be a couple more weeks for the paint to fully cure. Plugged the battery in to the charger a few minutes ago, and polished some of the chrome pieces. Tomorrow she goes up onto the motorcycle dolly in prep for final assembly, which I'm chomping at the bit to get going on. Friday is a long way off for me. I have a few pieces I need to turn out on the lathe for the luggage rack still, but hopefully that will only take a day to do. I'm excited to have the painting done and to be looking finally at the end of the tunnel, not just the light.

Lone- You could of course add a few more teaser pictures! Question though, you said you are waiting to put on the emblems until you wax. Did you just mean waiting for the paint to cure more? I would not wax first then apply emblems.
I just rolled my second thousand miles "testing" the dual exhaust. Seems like everything has settled in and is not going to break. Going to take it from one end of the Mississippi River to the other next month and don't want any suprises.

Why would you not wax first? I'm assuming that the adhesive won't stick as well. Thanks for the tip, though, as would hate for those to come off once they're applied. I will wait, though, for the paint to cure more.
I'll take a few more pics today, but none of the pieces are on the bike yet. Do you have any pics of the engine guard installed? Can't wait to see that. I just spent a few minutes in the garage just now getting all the little nuts and bolts that have been off the bike since November.

AFMM3- when you ordered your saddlebags, did you get the bags first and do some measurements and then order the brackets from BB Repro? I need to get my bags ordered and get working on that. If you have any measurements that would be great, as I believe you wrote that they made custom brackets for you so that the bags sit on their right. Thanks.

Nothing sticks to wax except more wax. You need an absolutely dry and clean (no silicons or waxes) surface for the adhesive to stick to, and let me tell you they will
stick
. I would test fit the location using a small amount of double sided tape first. That way you can see it from a distance and also make sure the curvature of the tank is correct for the emblem's desired location.
I did get the saddlebags first and then decide how I wanted their brackets modified to my situation. Basically I wanted the pins located as high as possible on the backing plate because I was mounting them to another aluminum plate from my old saddlebags. Going plate to plate gave me the greatest freedom of location to choose from. I had a great fear of them being located too high and not level with the exhaust or the ground. I will take a picture with the bags off and try to post it today along with the engine guard.

OK, here is the Dyna Engine Guard:
From drivers view-
You can see that they fit nicely between the floorboard adapter plates.

Lone - Since you are two tone blue and white, are you going with the white bags? If I had gone with the black, they would look like any other saddlebag setup from more than a few feet away. The white really attracts attention, even from riders going the opposite way down the Interstate. I have noticed though that the average Harley rider has stopped waving because they cannot judge fast enough if it is a Harley or not.

That's a good point about the white. If I did white, I would go with the birch white. I have given a lot of thought to the black, though, just because I like the way they look. I think it would still have a vintage look to them with the blue/white. Wish I could get one of each and hold them up to the bike. Thanks for the info on the engine guard and the brackets. Is your engine guard a Harley guard or after market? Good idea about the carpet tape for the emblems, then I can mark the location somehow and step away and look.
That's funny about the waving. With your bike you definitely do not fit the poser profile so they don't know what to do with you. That engine guard looks great, by the way.
