Re: June 28, 2008 Fund Raiser
Dateline: DeWitt MI (Located just north of Lansing, MI, in Clinton County)
Small DeWitt MI Biker Club does BIG things for local charity.
The Dewitt Biker Club in DeWitt MI is a small town family oriented Biker Club who has BIG ideas for raising money for the Michigan National Guard Family Fund.
The MNGFF is a 501(c)3 Charity that gives grants to the families of deployed Michigan soldiers during times of need.
Recently the Family Fund helped a local soldiers family right after the deployment of the husband of Sgt. Samantha Mayne. When their sewer line cracked under the home and Sgt. Sam was pregnant with her son Zach she was unable to clean the sewage mess. The Family Fund came in and hired a crew to dig up and replace the broken tiles and had it fixed in one day.
Well it turns out that Sgt. Sam and Sgt. Mayne her deployed husband are members of the DeWitt Biker Club in DeWitt.
When the founder of the Club found out what the Family Fund did for them he immediately got the idea to help them back by coordinating an all day motorcycle benefit in Lansing to raise money for the Fund.
The Family fund relies on 100% public funding, all donations and help come from the public. When Chrysler Corp. announced it was cutting a majority of it's help to the Fund due to hard times in the auto industry, the DeWitt Biker Club decided to step up and try to help.
Club founder William McKenzie says that despite this being their first year of doing the Benefit he plans on growing it into a major weekend event known far and wide and has plans of drawing in major talent in 80's and 90's Rock bands and would like to rival Common Ground for entertainment before it's said and done. But he knows you have to start somewhere. Bikers are a giving bunch and they love their music, bikes and helping a good cause.
Currently working with the biker club is local Classic Rock station 94.9fm WMMQ, Dan Henry Distributors, Pepsi-cola, Full Throttle Motor Sports and TDS Metrocom.
Coordinator William McKenzie says that their's always room for more help in the form of cash donations and Corporate Sponsors.
The list of events for the day are:
120 mile Poker Run
Motorcyle Raffle - Grand Prize is a 2008 Victory Hammer Motorcycle
Ride in Bike Show w/ Trophies
Silent Auction - Items include a donation from local rocker Ted Nugent and an autographed 1/24th scale race car signed by 9 retired TOP Indy Car driver including Emerson Fittipaldi and the father son team of the Unsers.
50/50 Raffles
3 Live bands
Pig Roast - Open to the public
A visit from a Black Hawk Helicopter as well to top the excitement for the kids.
Model Tent - Bikers can have pictures taken by a professional photographer of their bikes with local budding models like the Biker type calendars for a charge.
DeWitt Biker Club is donating 100% of the money raised during the day to the Michigan National Guard Family Fund.
They hope to raise around $14,000 or more.
This is a FAMILY event for everyone whether you ride or not.
All the details of this event can be found at http://www.mmfb.org

Wish us luck and hope you can join us on 6/28/08!
