spanner / hex sizes
hi all at the risk of sounding really dim can some one tell me what size nuts and bolts and hex are on a harley , coming from the uk and only using metric , it was a bit of a shock to find nothing fits my harley , needless to say its the first harley ive owned , what would be a good range of tools for me to buy ie size wise ect ,

In most part, the fasteners are standard. Very little is metric....but some do exist. Metric is becoming more apparent on the Harley as time goes by. Not a bad idea to have both.
Then you have torx....and torx is torx. You gotta have those and especially a T27 which is very common among Harleys. Snapring pliers are also a must to have....these are found all over Harleys. Torque wrenches are recommended also....
Just get a decent and quality made tool that carries a warranty you live with.

You would do well to get a set of spanners ranging from 3/8 to 1 1/4 in 1/16 increments. As for the allen (internal hex head) screws, I don't believe there are any smaller than 1/8 nor larger than 1/2, maybe 9/16.
Try to think in terms of Whitworth except that sizes are measured as the distance across the nut or bolthead instead of the length of one side.
