Suggestions for upgraded air cleaner 14 SGS
I also posted this in the rushmore section, but wanted to post here as well. I want to add a new and better air cleaner to my 14 SGS but not sure of good choices to look at. There are no other modifications to my bike, and I don't plan on making any soon. Maybe some slip ons at some point, but not for a the forseeable future.
What are some good choices for me to look at. Thanks

Just installed the Arlen Ness Big sucker that you can use the factory A/C cover with. Along With the tune and 4 inch Rinehart slip-ons made for a very nice upgrade. Feels like a different bike. Had the slip ons first and felt like i lost some torque so I tuned it a few weeks later. Now back to stock feel, but added the A/C tuesday and retuned and was pleasantly surprised of the difference the A/C made. The bike feels so much stronger! Great addition.

The best thing in my opinion is to leave it alone. These late model bikes have a better flowing filter element. They are no longer paper and appear to be some type of synthetic fiber. Any other air filter you buy is probably going to have a K&N filter element which will let a lot more dirt through. Do a google search and you will find a lot of tests that prove it. Here is a quote from a guy on another forum who has a dyno.
"LMAO! I've dynoed air cleaners till I was blue in the face last year. There wasn't a dime's worth of difference between
stock and the most expensive $300 work of art. NONE, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA!!!! You guys and your fancy air cleaners
need to find a hobby or learn to fish. You're wasting money and time looking for HP in the air filter. Kinda like looking
for ICE in the desert!"
And here are flow bench results of a 14 model air cleaner
"Sorry it it took a while to get back with the info. I performed the tests with the stock FBW 50mm TB only, mounted to the bench."
W/O A/C 239 cfm @28
W backing plate and filter only 239 cfm @28
W A/C complete w cover 227 cfm @28
W A/C complete w cover w/o inlet screen 229cfm @28
So no air cleaner cover is good for 10 cfm. Drill a few one inch holes in the bottom of the cover and that will probably make up most of the difference. A 103ci engine needs 163cfm at 5500 rpms.
