Default No Warranty - Unitl Part Fails ?

I am looking for anyone who has knowledge of the particulars of the Harley Warranty service agreement.

The voltage regulator is intermittently not charging on my 2012 Street Glide.

I asked the local dealer to replace it under warranty. They refused until the voltage regulator totally dies. The dealer said this is not their choice but HD Corporates rules. Is this true?

This seems absurd being when the voltage regulator totally craps out I'll be sitting on the side of the road.

I think there was a service bulletin on 2012 regulators. Ask your dealer to check your VIN number.

I finally called up HD Corporate and they stated the local dealer was incorrect. HD allows labor dollars to trouble shoot the electrical system for this warranty item.

HD Corporate gave me a request number, I was to give to the dealer so they could get the correct information from HD Corporate.

Not sure about Street Glide, but my alternator trouble started as yours, on and off. One nice day it stayed off and it was the alternator itself, not regulator. I upgraded to Cycle Electric.

Your regulator recall numbers are listed. If you bought from the dealer the computer sales/service/parts departments will show all recalls for your bike. The regulators production dates were posted.

Dealer replaced the volt reg during 1k check-up because the SN was in the bad lot, though everything was working fine. The latest trouble started about 18k miles and this volt reg was not in the known bad serial number lot.

Tell me more about cycle electric? If this issue resurfaces I may need to go that way.

http://www.cycleelectricinc.com/

Their website is ancient and renders poorly in modern browsers and they have no email communication. But they answer every phone call, they are really helpful and their product is high quality. Made in US.

Edit: You cannot buy direct from them, give a call to California Phil and you will get the lowest price possible http://www.harleypartscheap.com/
