XL883L transmission problem
OK guys, here goes - my 09 XL883L transmission has been acting up. 1st and 2nd gear work fine, but i can not get it into 3rd, 4th ,or 5th. this is the second time in the past 4 months or so that this has happened.
I try to lift the shift lever to up-shift and regardless of the force used I can not get the shift lever to move. It is almost like something is preventing the shift peg from being raised. My mechanic has been unable to duplicate the problem and is obviously unable to find a fix without experiencing the problem first hand. I tried stopping the engine and restarting it and thus far nothing has worked. The good news is that it has only happened twice in the past two years.
If any of you have experienced this problem, I would look forward to any suggestions or ideas that may have to correct this problem.
Thanks Guys...

Very strange! If you try to select gears with the engine off, will it go through the gears OK? Just rock the bike back and forth while making each change.
A possibility is that you are not releasing the gear lever fully between changes. The 'positive-stop' mechanism inside the trans has to be released fully after changing gear, so that the lever can return to the normal position, before the next gear can be selected.
