Default What solvent to use in parts washer

EDIT: The Harbor Freight solvent warns not to use on aluminum! So far Mineral Spirits seem to be most recommended 11/12/13.

I got the 20 gallon harbor freight parts washer........ I got the solvent that harbor freight had and it says to mix with water, then it mentions not to soak the parts.

What solvent is the best? Should I use the solvent I got for my big parts or use something else? I got 6 gallons of that stuff and thought that you just dump it in the washer and that's it, but it's got to be mixed with water.

I use paint thinner (mineral spirits). Just make sure your parts washer is compatible beforehand.

That stuff used to be dirt cheap... Last week I needed a gallon and it was like $16.00. Gotta shop around before I buy anymore of that.

Can you spell FLAMMABLE? I've seen parts washers go up in flames several times over the years ... BE CAREFUL!

Holy **** *****, FLAMABLE don't sound good lol!

The harbor freight stuff is $5 a gallon and not FLAMABLE. I think I'm going to stick with that and mix it with water. I think they say 1 part if solvent up 20 parts of water.

Now doing some more research I have read that the water based **** could stain aluminum parts (majority of the parts on a bike are aluminum, powder coated, etc.)!

WTF..................what solvent is safe and effective to use in my parts washer for all my bike parts???????????????

Like I said... Mineral Spirits. I've been using it for years and haven't caught fire yet. Just use a little common sense.

Will do.....

No issues with staying or removing powder coating, like in cylinders?
