Default Stupid question about factory security PIN

I was told by the dealer that the little black tag that came on my keys was my security PIN. Problem is, it is 4 digits followed by "HD" (XXXXHD) not 5 digits as I expected to see to manually override the security when the FOB is not in range. My question is, where is the security PIN located when you pick up your new bike from the dealer? On the little black tag attached to the spare keys?

I don't remember my PIN being on a tag when I got mine. I'm a security freak, so I changed it the day I took the bike home. You don't need to know it to change it as long as you have the FOB.

If you don't know it, you can get it by following the PIN changing procedure in your owner's manual, or just change it to one you can remember.

Steps for my 2013 DYNA are as follows (must have FOB present):

1. Make sure OFF/RUN switch is OFF
2. Turn ignition switch to IGN
3. Cycle OFF/RUN twice: RUN-OFF-RUN-OFF-RUN
4. Press LEFT turn signal switch twice (ENTER PIN will scroll through odometer)
5. Press RIGHT turn signal once and release (turn signals will flash and current PIN will scroll through odometer)

The rest of the procedure is in your manual.

Right, you don't need to know the security PIN to change it. I believe it has to be 5 characters though. The little black tag that came with your keys is the Key Code which is needed if you lose your keys. You can take the code to a locksmith and have a key made from scratch. Store the tag away in a safe and secure place!!

It's in your owners manual! If you don't have one you can go to HD's website and the 'Owners' tab to download one.
